East Meadow – The New York Islanders Girls Elite Hockey program is thrilled to announce the recipients of the National Grid scholarships for the 2023-2024 season. A steadfast partner since 2021, National Grid has been instrumental in fostering the growth and development of aspiring female athletes.

Established in 2016 by Alexis Moed in conjunction with the New York Islanders and the Northwell Health Ice Center, the Islanders Girls Elite Hockey program has expanded from 25 girls in 2016 to currently over 150. Offering competitive teams for girls ages 8-19 years old, the program emphasizes skill development in combination with league game play.

“The continued support of National Grid is an integral part of our program. Through their generous scholarship awards, players learn the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Our program greatly values these characteristics and are excited to see them echoed in and recognized through our partnership with National Grid”, said Islanders Elite founder and President Alexis Moed.

This year’s 12 scholarship recipients join a distinguished group of over 30 young female hockey players who have benefited from National Grid’s commitment to empowering the next generation.

Brian Sapp, Director of External Affairs at National Grid, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing partnership: “It’s been a privilege for National Grid to partner with the Islanders Girls Elite Hockey program since 2021. National Grid has awarded over 30 scholarships to Islanders Elite players to support the aspirations of these young female athletes. We’ve witnessed the girls both on and off the ice, and we know that this will continue to translate into the classroom, the boardroom, and beyond. Empowering young girls to become our future leaders and teaching them that anything is possible is invaluable, which is why we’re proud to continue to support this incredible program.”

The scholarship aims to recognize the outstanding achievements and potential of these young female athletes, providing financial assistance to support their endeavors and further their skills on the ice. The Islanders Elite Girls program and National Grid share a commitment to fostering a positive and empowering environment for female athletes, encouraging them to reach new heights in both their athletic and personal pursuits.

“We are delighted to once again partner with National Grid to provide these well-deserved scholarships to our talented female athletes,” said Paige Baker, Director of Partnerships at the Northwell Health Ice Center. “This collaboration has made a significant impact on the lives of these young athletes, empowering them to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination. We look forward to seeing the continued success of our scholarship recipients and are grateful for National Grid’s ongoing support.”

The Islanders Girls Elite program and National Grid remain dedicated to inspiring and empowering the new generation of female leaders, both on and off the ice. The 12 scholarship recipients for the 2023-2024 season represent a promising group of individuals poised to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
